Sir Stephen held the role of the country’s most senior NHS doctor until earlier this year, having led the organisation’s clinical response to COVID-19 and appeared more than 30 times at Downing Street briefings during the pandemic. He oversaw a wide range of national programmes including cardiovascular disease, respiratory disease, stroke, diabetes and prevention, and was a member of the Government’s SAGE advisory group.
At Hanover, Sir Stephen will provide strategic counsel to clients on NHS policy and health system dynamics, as well as advice and workshops on effective leadership communication. His unparalleled combination of clinical insight and communications experience will bring unique value to Hanover’s clients in health and beyond.
Gavin Megaw, President and Managing Partner at Hanover, commented: “Stephen brings extraordinary expertise and credibility from his time at the top of the NHS. Our clients are navigating complex health and policy challenges, and his insights will enhance our ability to support them in making an impact. We are thrilled to welcome him to Hanover.”
Emma Gorton, Managing Director of Healthcare at Hanover, said: “Stephen is one of the few individuals who can combine deep system knowledge with proven communications leadership. His arrival significantly strengthens Hanover Health’s ability to deliver the best insights in the market to our clients.”
Professor Sir Stephen Powis said: “I am delighted to be joining Hanover at such an exciting moment for the health sector.
