Janez Potočnik Senior Advisor

Janez works with Hanover to help advise clients on their sustainability strategies as part of Hanover 360, a pan-EMEA offering for businesses looking to embed sustainability practices within commercial strategy, public affairs and communications to drive meaningful change.

Janez previously served two mandates as European Commissioner, first for the Science and Research (2004 to 2009) and then for the Environment (2010-14). While responsible for the environment portfolio he introduced resource efficiency and circular economy concepts into European policy. Prior to his time at the European Commission Janez headed the Negotiating Team for Accession of the Republic of Slovenia to the European Union and was also a Minister responsible for European Affairs.

He currently co-chairs the UN International Resource Panel, serves as Chairman of the Forum for the Future of Agriculture and of the RISE Foundation, is a member of the Club of Rome and a partner in the sustainable systems change advisory Systemiq.
