Stephanie Lis will be taking up the role of head of campaigns at Hanover this autumn, reporting to Gary Cleland, the agency’s managing director, corporate.

Cleland said: “Steph is a fantastic operator, incredibly well respected across politics and media and she’ll be a great addition to our fast-growing team.”

He added: “Our clients are looking for sharp insight and strategic counsel to help them join the dots between politics and media. Steph will help them to navigate a fascinating political situation, articulate their point of view in media and build resilience within their organisations.”

Commenting on her new role, which will be her first agency job, Lis said: “Working in Westminster I’ve long admired Hanover and their approach to political and media communications. I’m looking forward to working with their fantastic corporate clients to create effective campaigns that deliver meaningful results.”

Career trajectory

Lis has a masters in history and international relations from the London School of Economics. She started out as a communications officer at the Institute of Economic Affairs, where she rose to become director of communications.

After six years at the right-wing think tank, she left to become a special adviser to Dominic Raab, the then-Brexit secretary, at the Department for Exiting the European Union. Lis also worked as a press officer for the Conservative Party during the 2019 general election. In 2020 she became one of Boris Johnson’s special advisers, based at 10 Downing Street.
