As the debate around net zero intensifies and the UK Government's legally-binding net zero targets, it is important that businesses communicate their commitments to sustainability with political stakeholders.
Octopus Group is a group of businesses focussed on investing in the people, businesses and industries of the future. Its investment portfolio includes energy, property, healthcare, mobility and small business, and its investments have put over £9.15bn into the UK economy.
The Group wants to lead the debate in renewable energy with Government and Parliamentary stakeholders responsible for setting the direction of the UK’s energy policy, as well as broader policy impacting institutional investors.
Action
Hanover supports Octopus in delivering a proactive engagement programme to inform stakeholders about its contribution to zero emissions energy. We have worked with the Octopus leadership team to identify the most common misconceptions about renewable technologies, and to agree the most compelling counterarguments to these. We then developed a multi-channel myth-busting campaign that was deployed at party conferences and in bilateral meetings with stakeholders.
Impact
As a result of our work together, Octopus is now viewed as a leader in the debate on net zero.
It has enabled the Group to build deeper relationships with Ministers, MPs and third parties active in the energy debate, widening its network at Westminster and allowing it to communicate with authority on a range of other issues, including post-COVID economic recovery.
